CE Marking - Recreational craft
ENAVE operates as a Notified Body for the certification and conformity assessment of recreational craft and personal watercraft, pursuant to Directive 2013/53/EC. The CE marking for recreational craft is the mandatory certification for placing them on the EU market. This process certifies that the vessel complies with the essential safety requirements established by the legislation, with particular reference to stability, buoyancy, structural robustness, propulsion, and maneuverability, as well as environmental protection requirements.
ENAVE Certified Units
ENAVE is accredited for the conformity assessment of the following types of units:
- Motorboats: Pleasure boats (up to 24 metres) inboard, outboard or sterndrive, including semi-rigid units and inflatable boats (RIBs).
- Sailboats: Vessels intended for sport or recreational sailing, including multihulls (catamarans and trimarans).
- Personal Watercraft (PWC): A vessel less than 4 metres in length that uses a motor with a water jet pump as the primary source of propulsion.
ENAVE Evaluation Procedures
The person responsible for placing the product on the market can choose the most suitable evaluation module based on the specific and technical characteristics of the unit.
Module A1 – Internal production control plus product testing
In this procedure, ENAVE supervises official tests regarding the stability and buoyancy of the unit to ensure its compliance with the required safety requirements.
Module B – EU-Type Examination
ENAVE performs design examination and tests on one or more representative production specimens to ensure compliance with all essential requirements.
Module G – Unit Verification
Specific procedure for each individual unit . ENAVE performs a complete technical assessment (physical inspection and documentary verification) on each individual unit to ensure its individual conformity.

PCA - Post Construction Assessment
Mandatory procedure when importing vessels from non-EU countries or in the event of significant modifications to the CE-marked vessel (modifications that affect length, width, power, maximum load, stability, or buoyancy).
ENAVE acquires the documentation and conducts the tests necessary to demonstrate the unit’s compliance with the requirements of Directive 2013/53/EC.
